Crooked Tail

Easy to spot with his offset tail, Crooked tail has not let this affect his survival or his good looks. Now a maturing male he has never really got used to the hassle of visitors, and ensures they recognise who is boss when he is around with growls and fangs.  He has had his time cut out though, trying to cover four females in his territory. Will he be able to relieve the pressure on him from both south and north? Only time will tell.

Age: 15 years old (adult)
Code: M3 (Tadoba)
First seen: October 2004
Gender: Male
Notable marks: Crooked tail. 90% angle to the vertical

Crooked Tail arrived in Tadoba in 2006. He was completely unknown at the time but soon started to have real impact because of the paucity of dominant males at this time in the area. Boom and Hilltop male had for years had the run of the mill to themselves and so Crooked Tail came as a wake-up call to them.

Soon Crooked Tail, a big muscular male was nestling in on their turf and slowly he began to push Hill top male north and settling into his own prime territory.

At this time he was so sure of himself that he began to become an extraordinary thief, seldom seen hunting himself he found it easier to steal from his ladies or even on one occasion from wild dogs, a risk seldom taken by tigers, who are scared themselves of wild dog packs.

By 2008 he was at his prime and covering a number of tigresses, including Vasanti (J4) and Laxmi (M1) and probably others.

Today he is now being squeezed by the new tiger on the block, Scarface (M8), and even larger and uglier character, from the south and by the old and prodigious Hilltop male (M2) from the north.

Will Scarface eventually turf off Crooked Tail? Follow him here.

Crooked tail, not having been seen for about 4/6 months, we found him near the Tadoba Lake - way outside of his usual territory (and near to both Rago's and Gabbar's areas!)

Great to see him after so many days. Glad that he is still alive.

This image of Crooked tail male tiger was shot in Aug. 2010. U can easily compare the stripe patterns of his head to the Pangolin catch tiger image.

hmm, seems to be the same guy on pangolin :)
